Michael spent several years as a teenager learning pool construction under the tutelage of his father Lew Akins before joining the Air Force in 1987. He and his brother David became especially skilled at installing all-tile interiors. After 26 years, Michael retired as an Air Force officer and decided to put his degree in business to work. In January of 2013, he was recruited back into the pool business by Lew to act as general manager of operations. Over the next couple of years, Michael immersed himself into all aspects of the company including sales and design and even started winning APSP design awards including an award at the international competition in the category of Technical/Engineering Achievement.
He quickly realized that a great percentage of new business comes from previous customers in the form of referrals or building for those customers again when they move. Taking care of customers from cradle to grave during construction, providing unmatched warranty service, and maintaining those customer relationships are of paramount importance to him. In March of 2016, Michael took over as President and CEO of Ocean Quest Pools by Lew Akins. Michael was elected to the Care craft Board of Directors in 2016. Michael is also a Certified Building Professional®.
Aaron joined our team in 2006 with a background in graphic design. It wasn’t long before we discovered his true talents were in management and organization. Aaron was a perfect fit for running the day-to-day operations of our service department. Since 2008, as the department head, he has managed over 200 route customers and well over a thousand service calls annually. In addition to his service manager duties, Aaron is an extremely knowledgeable Hot Tub sales associate.
His department is responsible for cleaning swimming pools, maintaining proper water chemistry/clarity and ensuring equipment functions properly for our regular route customers. When necessary, Aaron ensures timely repair or replacement of needed equipment for our valued service customers. Finally, the department performs warranty work for all of our trusted vendors.
Aaron has spent countless hours in seminars, conferences and continuing education training to be able to adequately handle all of our management, service, and warranty needs.
Orlando has worked in the creative industry for over 20+ years and served as Creative Director for two very well known companies. In 2015, Orlando joined the Ocean Quest Pools family as the Marketing Director and soon became interested in designing and building pools. He quickly mastered pool design programs such as Pool Studio and Google Sketch-up. After designing and selling a few projects, he realized that he enjoyed working with our customers and helping them with their projects.
He now manages Sundek of Central Texas and heads our renovation department. He and his crew complete hundreds of breathtaking projects annually for OQPLA as well as other home and pool builders.
Ronnie heads our design department and has been a part of this company since its inception. In fact, he and Lew started working together over 30 years ago. Ronnie is an exceptionally talented designer specializing in multi-level pools/decking and designing for difficult sites. He is personally responsible dozens of design awards at the regional, national and international level including a “Best in Show” Award at the 2014 APSP Region 3 Pool and Spa Show. Ronnie’s work has been featured in numerous magazines as well.
Ronnie has worked with many of the local custom home builders to provide clients the opportunity to move into their new homes with a complete backyard already done. Since he uses Auto-CAD as his primary design tool, it is easy for him to work in concert with architects and home builders.
After graduating from West Texas A&M University, John joined the OQPLA team in 2005 as the manager of Sundek of Central Texas, a subsidiary company of OQPLA. His natural gifts in design and customer service were the driving force behind over a dozen national project awards and the exponential growth of the company. He was so good that he was given responsibility over pool renovation projects, another area where he excelled.
John easily transitioned from Sundek and renovation projects to a very successful pool designer and sales associate. He truly enjoys working with each of his clients to bring their backyard dreams to fruition. He and his wife Kay are natives to central Texas and are very active in the local community. It shows in his dealing with his clients as if he is working for his friends and neighbors.
Kristi started with Ocean Quest Pools by Lew Akins way back in 2003 as our construction coordinator and greeting customers. After becoming a certified water technician, she performed water analysis for our customers and learned the retail side of the business.
Kristi is now the office manager with a couple additional hats. She also serves as our retail manager and spa sales manager. She is largely responsible for OQPLA garnering the prestigious Presidential Award for being top two spa dealers for Nordic Hot Tubs and earning the Exceptional Customer Service Award from Jacuzzi Hot Tubs 9 times!
